Introduction
The accelerating ecological crisis has become one of the most profound challenges confronting humanity in the twenty-first century. Climate change, environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, and the disruption of planetary systems compel renewed theological reflection on humanity’s relationship with the Earth, non-human life, and future generations. These challenges are not merely technical or political; they are deeply moral, spiritual, and existential, calling into question dominant anthropologies, cosmologies, and ethical frameworks.
This Special Issue on Theology in Entanglement with Ecology and the Environment invites scholarly contributions that critically explore how theological traditions, concepts, practices, and narratives engage ecological realities. We seek to examine theology not as an isolated doctrinal system, but as a living discourse intertwined with environmental ethics, ecological sciences, indigenous knowledge systems, social justice movements, and educational practices.
We particularly welcome interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches that bring theology into dialogue with environmental humanities, philosophy, law, pedagogy, ritual studies, and public discourse. Contributions may draw on scriptural traditions, historical theologies, contemporary eco-theological movements, or comparative and interreligious perspectives, addressing both local ecological contexts and global environmental challenges.
